Files You Can Upload

Work with the files you already use, from photos and video to RAW files, design files, 3D models and floor plans, without converting them first. Your plan decides which files you can upload and how big each one can be. See Subscription Plans.

On a Pro trial, you can upload everything Pro can, with 5 GB of storage space. When the trial ends, select a plan to keep working on your projects and uploading files.

Files You Can't Upload

A few file types only open in the program they were made in. Export them in one of these formats first, and you can upload them:

ProgramFile typesExport as
3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUpMAX, MA, MB, C4D, SKPGLB, GLTF, OBJ or FBX
BlenderBLENDGLB
Revit, ArchiCAD, NavisworksRVT, RFA, PLN, NWD, NWFIFC
AutoCAD and other CAD programsDWG, DWF, DGN, STEP, IGESDXF
Word and other text editorsDOC, ODTDOCX or PDF
FigmaFIGSVG, PNG or PDF

RAW Photos

On Studio and Pro, upload your RAW files right from the camera or card. Formta converts each one into a picture that shows in any browser, so you don't have to convert them to JPG yourself, and your client can review them in a Photo Selection.

Keep original RAW files is selected when you upload RAW files, so the RAW files are kept too, for you to download and edit later. If you only need the pictures, for your client to review, clear it to keep only the converted pictures and use less storage space.

3D Models

On Studio and Pro, add your 3D models to a project. Put one in a Storyboard frame to plan the scene in 3D, or on a Moodboard next to your other references. A Storyboard frame with 3D can be exported as GLB, glTF or OBJ, to open again in your 3D program. See Storyboard.

Storage Space

How much you can upload in total depends on your plan:

PlanStorage space
Free100 MB
Personal5 GB
Studio50 GB
Pro200 GB

On Studio and Pro, the storage space is shared by everyone in the team. A file uploaded to a team project or to the team's inventory uses the team's storage space. A file on your personal project, or in a personal inventory you've created, uses your own.

On Personal, Studio and Pro you can add more storage space, from 10 GB to 100 TB. See Billing Management.

Finding Your Files Again

Every file you upload is kept on the Inventory page, so you can find it again and add it to another element or project with Pick from inventory. When you import a CSV, spreadsheet or calendar file into an element, its data is added to the element and the file itself isn't kept.

Tips

  • Draw over the floor plan an architect or venue sends you. In a Blueprint, hover + and select Import file to add their DXF file at its real size, behind your plan. See Blueprint
  • Export a model from SketchUp, Revit or Blender in one of the formats above, and you can add it to your project
