Colour Palette
Keep a set of colours together, like your brand colours or the colours of a scene, and find the colours that go with them.
Adding A Colour Palette
- Click on the project page where you want the Colour Palette to be added, and type / to open the element menu
- Search for Colour Palette
- Select it to add it to the page
A new palette starts with six colours, which you can change or delete.
Working With Colours
Every colour in the palette can be copied, changed or deleted, and new ones added beside it:
- Click a colour to copy its HEX code
- Right-click a colour to change it in the colour picker
- Hover a colour to add a colour before or after it, or to delete it
Select the palette to show or hide the HEX codes, and to switch between a horizontal and a vertical palette, in the row of buttons under it.
The Colour Picker
Right-click a colour and click the palette icon in the colour picker to open the colour harmony window. It has HEX, RGB, CMYK and HSL values, and Colour Harmonies to make a set of colours that go with the one you've picked:
- Complementary: The opposite colour on the colour wheel
- Analogous: The colours next to it on the colour wheel
- Triadic: Three colours evenly spaced around the wheel
- Tetradic: Two complementary pairs
- Split Complementary: The colour and the two either side of its complement
- Monochromatic: Variations of the same hue
- Tints & Shades: Lighter and darker versions, plus its complement
A harmony replaces the colours in the palette, so to keep the old colours too, add a new palette for the harmony.
It also shows the contrast between a background and a text colour, and warns you when the selected colour profile can't reproduce a colour.
Colour Profiles
A colour profile shows your colours the way a printer or screen will reproduce them. To select one, right-click a colour, click the palette icon (Colour harmony) in the colour picker, and open the colour profile list. It has sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998), Display P3, Rec. 2020, ProPhoto RGB and three CMYK print profiles: US Web Coated SWOP, Coated FOGRA39 and ISO Coated v2.
While a profile is on, the window says Showing how this looks in the profile, and marks each colour the profile can't reproduce with a warning sign.
On the Pro plan, you can also use your own profile, like the one your printer gives you. Select Upload a colour profile in the list and pick an ICC or ICM file. It shows in the list with (custom) after its name, team members see it on palettes you've set to it, and it's used when you export the palette. An RGB profile is embedded in a PNG or JPEG, and a CMYK profile gives the CMYK values. To remove it, select it and click the bin icon next to the list.
Adding A Data Source
Select the palette, hover + under it and select:
- Connect data source: Show the colours from a Colour Chart, Moodboard or Table. They update when the source does
- Import file: Take the colours from a picture, or on Studio and Pro, from an ASE or ACO swatch file
- Pick from inventory: Take the colours from a picture in your inventory
Using A Colour Palette As A Data Source
A Colour Chart, Moodboard, Whiteboard or Table can show the palette's colours, and a To Do List, To Do Kanban, Content Calendar or Timeline can add them to a task. Connect a whole palette to a Colour Chart and a Colour Chart is added for each of its colours. Hover + on the palette and select Copy connection ID to find it quickly in their list. They update when the palette changes.
Client Approval
When you send the page to a client in a client revision, they can approve the palette.
Export Your Colour Palette
Click the download icon in the palette's toolbar. The formats are:
- PNG
- JPEG
- SVG
Before you export, select the layout (a horizontal strip, a vertical strip or a grid), the page size and orientation, the background colour, which values to include (HEX, RGB and CMYK), the image quality for a PNG or JPEG, and crop marks for a PDF.
