Moodboard

Adding A Moodboard
- Click on the project page where you want the Moodboard to be added, and type / to open the element menu
- Search for Moodboard
- Select it to add it to the page
Adding Content
Drag files onto the moodboard, or hover + in the toolbar and select:
- Import file: Upload pictures, videos and files from your computer
- Pick from inventory: Add a file you've already uploaded
- Add from museum or Add from stock images: Find artwork from seven museum collections, or photos from Pexels
Which files you can add, and how big they can be, depends on your plan. See Subscription Plans.
The Toolbar
Select a tool in the toolbar, or press its key while the Moodboard is selected.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select (V) | Move, resize and rotate items |
| Text (T) | Add text |
| Colour | The colour for text and the colour picker |
| Crop (C) | Crop the selected image. Press Enter to apply it, or Esc to cancel |
| Auto Arrange | Lay out everything on the moodboard as a grid, a masonry, a circle or a collage, with the number of columns and the spacing you set. Shuffle the layout to try a different order |
| Templates (⌥ / Alt + T) | Start from a ready-made layout |
| Background Settings | The moodboard's background colour, gradient or picture |
| Parallax | The parallax layers |
| Panels | Open or close the side panel |
| Export (⌘ / Ctrl + E) | Export the moodboard |
The Side Panel
Click the panels icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. It has two tabs:
- Layers: Everything on the moodboard, in order. Show, hide, lock, rename, duplicate or delete an item here, or drag it to a new place in the order
- Canvas: The size of the moodboard. Select a preset, like A0 to A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid, a billboard, a screen or a social media post, or enter your own width and height. You can also show a grid and snap items to it, so they line up
Parallax Layers
Click Parallax in the toolbar and select Enable parallax to give the moodboard depth. Your items are grouped into layers by their order in the Layers tab, and scrolling carries you forward through them: the layer you're on is sharp, the ones ahead are smaller and softer, and the ones you've passed grow and blur as you move past them.
- Presets: Subtle, Floating, Dynamic or Dramatic
- Speed: How far each scroll carries you
- Depth: How many layers the items are grouped into
- Passed layers: Fade them out, or keep them visible
How many parallax layers you can have depends on your plan:
- Personal: 5
- Studio: 10
- Pro: No limit
Adding A Data Source
Hover + in the toolbar and select Connect data source to bring in items from a Table, Colour Palette, Colour Chart, Photo Selection, Shopping Selection, Whiteboard, Video, Storyboard, Mindmap, another Moodboard or, on Studio and Pro, a floor of a Blueprint. They update when the source does.
Using A Moodboard As A Data Source
A Colour Palette or Colour Chart can take its colours, and a Storyboard, Whiteboard, Table or another Moodboard can show its pictures. A To Do List, To Do Kanban, Content Calendar or Timeline can add it to a task. Hover + on the moodboard and select Copy connection ID to find it quickly in their list. They update when the moodboard changes.
Client Approval
When you send the page to a client in a client revision, they can approve the moodboard.
Export Your Moodboard
Click the export icon in the moodboard's toolbar. The formats are:
- PNG
- JPEG
- WebP
- TIFF
- SVG
- Photoshop (Layered)
- JSON
With parallax layers turned on, two more formats keep the layers moving:
- Web Page (HTML): One file that opens in any browser. Scrolling, swiping or the arrow keys move through the layers, just like in Formta, so you can send it to a client or put it on a website
- MP4 Video: The moodboard played from the first layer to the last, with a short pause at each end. More layers or a slower speed make a longer video
